“I’m in awe of the talent we have in this community.” Said Jon Konarske host of the InBusiness Commercial Design Awards. This was the 12th year for the event and the talent was out of this world. The Commercial Design Awards honor the best of the best designs created by Madison area companies in projects across the state of Wisconsin. According to InBusiness Magazine, when asked to pinpoint the most important ingredient in organizational success, investors invariably cite quality management, but there is another quality of successful businesses — a facility that reflects the personality and brand of the venture that operates inside. This year, 11 commercial building designs took the top spots at the awards. Fearing’s had a hand in the work to create two of the winners: Zendesk and Tru By Hilton.
Zendesk: Best Office Renovation
Zendesk Inc., a software company headquartered in San Francisco, now has a location at 25 W. Main St., in Madison. Judges for the Commercial Design awards say they were most impressed by the overall design, materials, finishes, and orientation of views.
Zendesk’s collaborative workspaces require an array of technology integrations from Fearing’s including:
- Video over IP as a more flexible and cost-effective way of sending audio and video over the IT infrastructure
- An effective and affordable direct LED video wall
- Individual Zoom-rooms
- Crestron, with Zoom Conferencing
“This project expresses the personality of the type of people who would likely be working here,” said one judge. “It talks about collaboration, and it talks about individual focus. It’s a great example of where workspace appears to be going.” Zendesk was completed in September 2018. You can read more about Zendesk here.
Tru By Hilton: Best New Hotel Development or Renovation
A hotel for the younger generation or just the young at heart, that was kept in mind when designing this Hilton Hotel. This is one of the first “Trus” to open in Wisconsin and only the 20th in the whole country. Public areas offer more vibrant colors and collaborative spaces. The lounge area not only features games but also showcases a one-of-a-kind, Madison inspired wall mural. While all this is appealing to the eyes, Fearing’s was responsible for something that brings peace of mind. With 46,125 in square feet space, Fearing’s is responsible for all the data cabling and video surveillance system. Tru By Hilton was completed in April 2018.
