In an article published in the April 2014 Dashboard entitled 44 school shootings since Newtown”, the America School Board Journal reports:

  • A school shooting has occurred every 10 days since the December 2012 shooting massacre in Newtown, Conn., according to a February report on K-12 and college campuses.
  • Compiled by two groups — Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America — the report counted 13 shootings in the first six weeks of 2014.
  • The groups found that 70 percent of shootings after Newtown were done by minors, and three-quarters involved guns brought from home, according to the New York Daily News. The incidents included assaults, homicides, suicides, and unintentional shootings.

The FBI Active Shooter Facts report that:

  • The average active-shooter incident lasts 12 minutes. 37% last less than 5 minutes.
  • Overwhelmingly, the offender is a single shooter (98%), primarily male (97%).
  • In 40% of incidents, the offender kills themselves.
  • 57% of the shootings are still underway when the police arrive.
  • The shooter often stops as soon as he hears or sees law enforcement, sometimes turning his anger or aggression on law enforcement.
  • In 20% of incidents, the shooter goes mobile and moves to another location.

So what is the best approach in interceding when an emergency takes place in your facility? BluePoint Alert Solutions has developed a response system that is delivering fast communications in emergency situations thereby decreasing the ever important law enforcement response time. BluePoint does for Law Enforcement what a Fire Alarm does for the Fire Department.

BluePoint was founded on three simple facts:

  • The faster responders are on site, that faster the emergency situation ends.
  • The faster building occupants take preventative or defensive measures, the more likely the threat can be minimized.
  • Panicked people do not think or react rationally.

Blue Point automatically contacts police with minimal human intervention.  It automatically communicates a threat situation throughout the building, lets the intruder know the police are on the way, and provides the police and administration with the initial location of threat information.
