Fearing’s Audio Video Security was recently notified that it is one of ten recipients of the Dane County 2015 Small Business Awards. These prestigious awards recognize 10 successful small Dane County businesses that have rewarding workplace environments and contribute to their community. The award program is administered by the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center at the UW-Madison Wisconsin School of Business.
Fearing’s Audio Video Security was co-founded by Doug and Lois Fearing in June of 1997 as Fearing’s Satellite & Sound, Inc which remains its incorporated name. Fearing’s began in Portage, WI where Doug Fearing worked for 20 years.
In 2005, Fearing’s opened a satellite office on Mendota Street in Madison to support its growth in Dane County. As Fearing’s continued to grow in Dane County and its employee base now largely came from the Madison area it became clear that it needed to move its headquarters to Madison. In April of 2009 Fearing’s secured a location on Madison’s east side where it resides today. Fearing’s Audio Video Security recently secured an office in Milwaukee and plans to continue expansion in that market.
The philosophy at Fearing’s is to ‘be a force for good in the world’ which contributed to its achieving the award and they try to make decisions based on this. For example, Fearing’s supports “Schools for Haiti” and raises money to educate children in Haiti through an annual dinner/auction event – this year’s event was just held on May 9. In addition, Fearing’s is a supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs, the Salvation Army, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and more. In addition to this, they support employees by offering a wellness benefit called a Chaplain Assistance Program for employees and their families through Capital Chaplains. Fearing’s tries to look at each employee as a ‘whole person’.
The Small Business Award will be formally presented at a breakfast on June 4th at the Sheraton Hotel on John Nolen Drive in Madison.
